Join us for a special Guy Harvey Outpost Photo Academy hosted by professional photographer Ben Hicks, noted for his emmy award-winning underwater images and video, along with photographer and author Mike Winkles.
Dive into the tips and techniques from Ben and Mike, industry leaders on how to shoot in the water compelling images. Get wet, with free use of demo cameras provided by Canon and housing units by Aquatech; or stay dry, shooting from the shoreline if preferred. Both Ben and Mike will offer individual instruction in shooting and editing to improve skills that build a lifetime of fun with photography.

Start with a meet and greet at our basecamp before heading across the dunes to the beach. We’ll organize our gear, go over ingestion, editing, photo storage, settings and dive into one-on-one instruction with renowned photographers Ben Hicks and Mike, Winkles capturing stunning sunset shots and the surf. After the shoot, we’ll return for a classroom session where Ben and Mike will share invaluable tips on shooting in the field and editing techniques.
SATURDAY MORNING
6:30 AM – 10:30 PM

- Any DSLR camera including any detachable lenses you may have.
- Point and shoot camera if you don’t have a DSLR
- Go Pro
- Action Cam
- Cell phone camera if you have no other cameras(Which is ok!).
- A strap or other type of harness to secure your camera gear.
GEAR TO BRING
- A backpack for your gear if you feel you need one
- Chargers for your electronics
- SD card reader or some other way to get files from your camera to your computer
- Laptop
- Camera batteries
- Change of clothes and towel if you want to get wet.

Emmy Award winning South-Florida based photographer Ben Hicks has journeyed across the Americas and ventured to exotic locales spanning the globe to compose a profoundly diverse collection of fine-art photography that truly captures the majestic beauty of the natural world.
This self-proclaimed “adventure-boy” not only strives to portray the familiar in extraordinarily original ways, but also takes big risks to capture the most complex, often dangerous situations including big waves and precarious animal encounters all to share his admiration for Mother Nature’s creations. Whether shooting tropical beachscapes in the South Pacific, vast sandstone buttes in the American Southwest or the first few open water strides of a leatherback sea turtle hatchling, Ben’s distinctive vision and inimitable approach to photography renders intricately detailed images that captivate viewers and serve as a testament to his enjoyment and reverence of nature.
BEN’S LIGHTBOX

Mike Winkles has been dive instructor for 22 years now. He is a PADI Course Director, the highest professional rating in scuba diving, and trains the future dive instructors in the industry. Mike began working with Sea & Sea cameras in 2001 and became an Underwater Photography Instructor in 2003. Along with regularly licensing content to media companies like Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and GoPro, he works in Research & Development with some of the largest underwater camera and gear companies, as well as travels to create content for tourism markets, environment agencies, digital & print media.
