The Guy Harvey Foundation collaborates with local and international organizations to conduct scientific research and host educational programs aimed at better understanding and conserving the ocean environment. Of late, Guy and his team have created an innovative standards based digital-media environmental science curriculum for K-12 education, distributed worldwide by Discovery Education to teachers and science supervisors.

Committed to the conservation of game fish, the association promotes sustainable angling practices through science, education, rule-making, and recognition of outstanding angling accomplishments worldwide.

CAPTAINS FOR CLEAN WATER

Alarmed by the rapid decline in the health of Florida estuaries and convinced poor water management policies and a general lack of public awareness were root causes, Captains for Clean Waters was founded by a couple of fishing guides whose very livelihoods and lifestyles were at stake. With a focus on awareness and education, the organization fights to restore and protect water resources

GTM RESEARCH RESERVE

Named for three rivers that tie together 76,760 acres of Northeast Florida watershed, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas (GTM) National Estuarine Research Reserve protects a habitat of amazing and valuable diversity. A collaboration between Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, GTM offers a range of educational opportunities for students and the public and research facilities for visiting scientists.

MATANZAS RIVERKEEPER

Matanzas Riverkeeper, member of the international network, Waterkeeper Alliance, focuses on grassroots advocacy, education and outreach to develop policies and programs helping protect the Matanzas River watershed. One of its signature programs is “The Litter Gitter”, a banana yellow 24’ skiff specially equipped for debris removal and immensely popular throughout the local community for its volunteer waterway cleanup events.

SEA TURTLE CONSERVANCY

Founded as the Caribbean Conservation Corporation in 1959 by the famed zoologist Dr. Archie Carr, the Sea Turtle Conservancy is the oldest sea turtle research and conservation group operating today. The organization carries out programs throughout Florida, Central America and the Caribbean to conserve and recover sea turtle populations through research, education, advocacy and protection of the natural habitats upon which they depend. Through its Sea Turtle Survival League program, STC is today helping enhance, protect and promote the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, running along Florida’s coastline north of Melbourne for 20.5 miles.

Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience is a full-time University of Florida research center for biomedical research and biotechnology. The cornerstones of The Sea Turtle Hospital at Whitney Laboratory include sea turtle rehabilitation and research, with robust community outreach and education offerings including its popular turtle adoption and release programs..

GIVE KIDS THE WORLD

Each year 27,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. When a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, a family’s life changes forever. Energy vanishes, hope fades, and free time slips away. With a whimsical “storybook” village resort spread over 89-acres outside of Orlando, Give Kids the World offers weeklong, cost free vacations to these brave children and their families. Days are spent visiting Central Florida’s many attractions and theme parks, returning each evening to a village of themed parties, events and surprises. To date, Give the Kids Village has welcomed close to 200,000 families from 76 countries.

K9s for Warriors

Roughly 20 veterans die by suicide every day, Determined to stem this, K9s For Warriors provides highly-trained Service Dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma. With the majority of dogs being rescues, this innovative program allows the K9/Warrior team to build an unwavering bond that facilitates their collective healing and recovery– at no cost to the veteran.
