Matanzas Bay and the Guana and Tolomato Rivers are among the most fertile estuarine waters in the state of Florida crating a great inshore fishery for St. Augustine. Anglers will have an exciting day fishing for sea trout with light tackle or sight fishing for redfish during a flood tide. You do not have to travel far as Salt Run is known as one of the more popular spots on the northern part of Anastasia Island.

St. Augustine has excellent offshore fishing for big game fish. Typically charters travel 10 to 30 miles offshore in the Atlantic Ocean fishing reefs and ledges for a variety of species including cobia, amberjack and sea bass. Farther out, you’ll find more trolling action, especially in the spring, as pelagic species like sailfish, blackfin tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, and kingfish come through this area when they migrate. Offshore charters include ½ day, ¾ day, and full day charters. Charter fishing captains provide everything, from the boat itself to all the fishing equipment, including bait, and, most importantly, the expertise.

A great spot for visitors to enjoy fishing without a big commitment of time or money is the St. Johns County Ocean Pier on St. Augustine Beach less than a ½ mile away from our resort. The pier itself maintains a fishing license with the state, so it is not necessary to purchase a separate license when fishing here — the license is included in the fishing fees. Fishermen can bring their own equipment or rent a pole at the bait and tackle shop. Fishing fees for non-residents are $3.00/adults and $1.50/children
The pier is open daily from 6AM through 10PM. Restrooms and outdoor showers are available at the pier, and there’s also a playground, a splash park, bocce courts, and a farmer’s market on Wednesday mornings. There’s plenty for the whole family to do.
Serious anglers who bring their boats with them on vacation can find a complete list of all St. Johns County boat ramps by visiting here. The closest marina to the resort is the Conch House Marina if you need to dock your boat while staying in St. Augustine Beach.
