Bart Swab is a licensed and insured guide with a lifetime experience fishing the coastal waters of the Sunshine State. A native of West Palm Beach, Florida, Bart grew up fishing the Loxahatchee River with his family for snook, tarpon. After relocating to Northeast Florida in 2001, Bart discovered that kayaks (which have a draft of about three inches) were the best way to quietly approach fish in the shallow waters of the area’s marshes and tidal pools.

Bart’s love of fishing comes from his father, who also instilled in him the importance of preserving the environment for future fisherman. It was the pursuit of these values that led Bart to complete the Florida Coastal Master Naturalist Program offered by the University of Florida, a hands-on course and environmental conservation.

When you fish with Bart, his love for conservation will be apparent. From the use of circle hooks with bait, to the gentle handling of large breeding fish, Bart‘s passion for passing on his love of the outdoors to others will be very evident. Catch Photo Release is encouraged to ensure the resources for the next generations of anglers. If you’re looking for a good dinner from your catch, Bart has the amenities to fillet and package your fish.

Questions for Guide Pro Bart Swab

Q: Your favorite fish to target?

A: Snook. The thump and how acrobatic a fighter they can be.

Q: Your favorite place to eat in the St. Augustine area?

A: Aunt Kate’s. They cook your catch, fried, blackened or grilled.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world to fish, and money was no object, where would you go and what would you fish for?

A: Panama. Black snook in the surf and black marlin. I’d love to see one eat a fly.

Q: What is your favorite activity when you aren’t fishing?

A: Hunting for white-tailed deer or turkey.

Q: If you had only one fly and you had to catch a fish, what would it be?

A: Clouser minnow. It catches everything.

Q: If you could take anyone in the world on a kayak fishing charter, who would it be?

A: My dad is right there at the top, but probably Flip Pallot–just to pick his bring on fly techniques.
