Join us for a two-day Guy Harvey Outpost Photo Academy with award-winning professional photographer Mark Krancer in historic Beaufort, SC.

Photographers bring any camera you want to learn on, including cell phone cameras. The techniques that you will learn can be applied to any camera. Mark will give each student a hands-on learning experience as they learn to improve their skills that build a lifetime of fun with photography. Register today as space is limited!

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

FRIDAY – NIGHT LIGHTS

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Meet and greet at our basecamp for the weekend, the Best Western Sea Island Inn. From there, tour the downtown working on long exposure capturing the southern charm of this historic downtown. Finish at the St Helena Graveyard as photographers get tips and techniques on light photography.

SATURDAY MORNING – LOW COUNRY

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Let’s experience some of the South Carolina’s Low Country! The first morning stop is Saint Helena Parish Chapel of Ease Church Ruins. This historic church has been shot in many movies and is great to capture the history of Beaufort. Afterwards, we tour Fort Fremont, a real treasure for photograph with lots of different textures and cavities to explore for photographers. From there, we will go back to downtown as photographers will have free time to explore downtown, get lunch and relax before afternoon session.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON – WILDLIFE HARBOR CRUISE

4:30 PM – 7:30 PM

It’s Fast Shutter Time. On a boat charter with a naturalist as your guide, capture the wildlife and harborfront of Beaufort, SC! Depart from downtown and cruise the harbor and waterways of Beaufort photographing dolphins and other wildlife. Mark will be focusing on teaching fast shutter photography techniques.

SUNDAY MORNING – DOWNTOWN SHOOT & EDITING

7:30 AM – 11:00 AM

Stroll the quiet streets of downtown, shooting historic buildings at daybreak in the morning light. Afterwards we return to the Best Western Sea Island Inn for a photo editing class to learn how to edit like a pro.

The Lowcountry region had been subject to numerous European explorations and several aborted attempts at colonization before the British successfully founded the city in 1711. Rediscover the legends of those who walked here generations before you and unearth new treasures that will enrich your life forever.

CAMERAS YOU CAN BRING

  • Any DSLR camera including any detachable lenses you may have.
  • Point and shoot camera if you don’t have a DSLR
  • Cell phone camera if you have no other cameras(Which is ok!).
  • A strap or other type of harness to secure your camera gear.

GEAR TO BRING

  • A backpack for your gear if you feel you need one
  • Good shoes for walking around
  • Camera batteries
  • Tripod is highly suggested for the night photography portion
  • Any filters, flashes, or other photography gear that you may have and want to learn more about
  • Willingness to learn!

Mark Krancer moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2014 and instantly fell in love with the beauty of the area, deeply appreciating the natural beauty of Northeast Florida, whether an inspiring sunrise on the St. John’s river, a dockside seascape, a romantic nightscape, or a moving train.

During 2017’s Hurricane Irma he shot what many consider to be the most iconic photo of Northeast Florida’s devastation, now known as “Life In The River”, later donating a portion of the sales proceeds from this stunning photograph rebuild the city’s beloved World War I tribute, Memorial Park.

Winner of Jacksonville Times Union “Best Photographer” 2018 and the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville’s 2020 “The Art Of Giving” award for his philanthropic endeavors, his works are frequently exhibited throughout the region, including the Jacksonville International Airport.
