Mark Krancer photographed what is considered to be the most iconic photo of Northeast Florida during Hurricane Irma, now known as “Life In The River”. By donating a portion of the sales proceeds from this stunning photograph back to the Memorial Park Association, Mark has been instrumental in helping to rebuild his city’s beloved World War I tribute.

Mark won “Best Photographer” Jacksonville. Com’s 2018 Bold City Best competition. In 2019, Mark became a member of the Professional Photographers of America Association, founded in 1868. Mark was also honored with the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville’s 2020 Art Award for “The Art Of Giving” for his philanthropic endeavors. He also became an official brand ambassador for Guy Harvey Outposts, where he showcases Florida’s natural beauty through his lens and teaches others.

Mark is often featured in art shows and exhibits in and around North East Florida and can be found at Riverside Arts Market during the holidays. Email Mark for his current schedule of events.

Questions for Guide Mark Krancer

Q: What is your favorite thing to photograph?

A: Landscapes and cityscapes that involve motion and dynamic light. Motion in water, lights traveling through a scene like car trails, and the changing light of sunset are all incredibly enjoyable elements to me. All these factors help capture a powerful image that tells a story. My next favorite type of thing to photograph is a restaurant’s menu, especially if they have good BBQ!

Q: What’s your favorite place to eat in the St. Augustine area?

A: Being a commercial food photographer has advantages! There is such a great abundance of quality it is hard to choose. The Floridian is one of my favorites, make sure you don’t skip their derby pie dessert! Grilled cheese gallery, Carmelo’s Pizzeria, A1A alehouse, Blue Hen Cafe, and the Ice Plant are all honorable mentions. For BBQ, head to the other side of the county for Woodpecker’s BBQ. You can thank me later!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world to photograph, and money was no object, where would you go and what would you shoot?

A: So, my “if i won the lotto” type dream is to spend a month in each state, exploring the big cities, small towns, and as many old dirt roads as I can find! I think it would be a great study of the cultural history of America. If I had to pick one specific destination, I would say Iceland for its amazing landscapes. But my trip to South Africa for safari was well worth the effort. I feel every photographer should go at least once!

Q: What is your favorite activity when you aren’t shooting?

A: I love hiking in the mountains and swimming in the springs of Florida. Enjoying nature and exploring are my favorites.

Q: What type of camera do you use?

A: I use 2 Nikon Z9’s as my primary cameras. Then for drone I use a phantom 4 pro and mavic mini.

Q: If you could take anyone in the world join one of your Photo Academies, who would it be?

A: My stepsons Gavin and Logan, when they want to learn and pay attention lol. It is always a joy to pass along the joy of photography, with anyone willing to put in the effort and get creative!
