Join us for a special Guy Harvey Outpost Photo Academy with renown professional photographer Ron Modra to photograph majestic and colorful Spoonbills, along with other wildlife at St. Augustine’s popular Alligator Farm Zoological Park. He will offer instruction, tips, and techniques on creating professional quality images and helping you become a better photographer.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
- 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM
Shuttle from Guy Harvey Resort St Augustine Beach to the Alligator Farm Zoological Park - 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM
With our Photographer Pass, we enter the park early and capture the morning light as the rookery comes alive with wild birds, alligators and more. - 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Free time for exploring and putting the morning tips to work. Lunch - 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Return to hotel for an editing workshop. You will get to show off your work to Ron and learn his editing techniques and tips on what to do in similar settings during the afternoon session. - 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Free Time. - 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Shuttle from Guy Harvey Resort St Augustine Beach to the Alligator Farm Zoological Park. - 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
With our Photographer Pass, we will stay in the park past closing allowing us to capture the parks wildlife in the evening sunset light, putting Ron’s advice and suggestions to work!.
OTHER STUFF TO KNOW
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park opened in 1893 as a small exhibition of Florida reptiles and by 1910 had established itself as a quintessential Florida attraction. Today it is organized and operates as an accredited zoo serving the public and the scientific community with educational shows and exhibits, important research, and worldwide conservation efforts. The zoo’s Alligator Swamp and Spoonbill Rookery are just a few of its many features and exhibits.
Zoo Admission Prices: $35.99 for adults (age 12+). A 10% discount is available to AAA, military service members and seniors
CAMERAS YOU CAN BRING
- Any DSLR camera including any detachable lenses you may have.
- Point and shoot camera if you don’t have a DSLR
- Cell phone camera if you have no other cameras(Which is ok!).
- A strap or other type of harness to secure your camera gear.
GEAR TO BRING
- A backpack for your gear if you feel you need one
- Good shoes for walking around
- Camera batteries
- Tripod is highly suggested for the night photography portion
- Any filters, flashes, or other photography gear that you may have and want to learn more about
- Willingness to learn!
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Ronald C. Modra was a staff and contract photographer at Sports Illustrated for 25 years, credited with 70 magazine covers and countless images you’d almost certainly recognize. Several of his images appear in Sports Illustrated’s 40 Best of All Time and The Century’s Best Sports Photos. He is also a two-time winner of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s “Photo of the Year” award and has authored two books on the game – “Reflections of the Game” and “A Baseball Life”—each showcases his best images from a spectacular career.
Of late, from his home in Nashville, Ron has enjoyed shooting album covers for country music artists. As he says, “Singers are all pretty good looking – it’s hard to screw up when your subject is Martina McBride”. But when it comes to athletes he’s quick to note “ hey, we’re not miracle workers!” An avid outdoorsmen and angler, he is a frequent contributor to outdoor, fishing and travel publications. When not behind a camera, he can be often be found fishing in the Florida Keys, Bahamas or other tropical fishing hot spots..
